Hi,
If you're reading this, it means you're either one of our absolute oldest fans from the newsletter days, or you're a newer one who loved our content so much you subscribed here to get notified of new videos without us ever even asking you to do that. In either case, we owe you a real debt of gratitude.
Thank you so much for your support.
Today, we have a big announcement, and if you want to watch it in video form, you can here. But I think it's nice to be able to talk to you all here, like we used to do. Something about this blog feels more personal than a "YouTube video." Go figure.
On June 3, 2022, we announced, "Spectacles is changing." This was the last time we shared anything like an update, and while it was exciting to announce we were moving to video, we were also sad to retire the project of the newsletter we worked so hard to build.
Today's announcement, though, isn't bittersweet. We're just plain thrilled to tell you, we're joining Nebula! Nebula is an invite-only streaming platform owned by and home to some of the very best educational video creators on the internet, and we're beyond flattered by the opportunity to join this incredible community of talented people.
Why Nebula? Well, it's user-supported with monthly subscription fees, which frees creators from the constraints brought about by advertisers, allowing us greater freedom to make the best possible videos. This system also makes for a more sustainable and reasonable "pay-per-view" for creators. Moreover, Nebula invests in their creators, providing incredible production resources which would be impossible for us to attain on our own as well as co-producing original content with creators, from new series to short films to—with the recent launch of their film studio—feature-length productions.
What does this mean for you? Nebula is going to be the first stop for every new video, but they'll all be posted to YouTube about one week after that. So, everything is still free to watch, but if you join Nebula you'll be able to watch all our videos well before they're available on YouTube. (If you're a Patreon supporter, we are working to figure out whether we can also share these videos with you when they go live on Nebula.)
We believe joining Nebula is an amazing opportunity for us to join an incredible community of the world's most talented video creators (something already paying dividends in the form of valuable feedback) and to open extremely exciting new doors for the future of Spectacles. We really hope you'll consider joining with us, to help build a better home for the internet's best videos.
If you'd like to come along, you can visit go.nebula.tv/spectacles to get 40% off an annual subscription, for $30 a year. That's just $2.50 a month!
Whether or not you join, like I said, you're among the most generous supporters of Spectacles, and we couldn't be more grateful to you for sticking with us all this time.
Thank you,
Harry and Philip
